The Body of Christ
Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 1 Corinthians 12:27
What part of the body of Christ do you operate? Over the centuries, the body of Christ has gone through many amputations, removing the various gifts of the Holy Spirit and eventually cutting off the office of the apostles and prophets. In the letter to the Ephesians, apostle Paul wrote, "Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit."
It is a wonder that we still have the Spirit of God dwelling in our churches. We say we believe in the bible and live according to it’s recorded examples, however, our church government does not fall in line with the scriptures. These limitations of man have crippled many of God’s people from operating in their calling. In the early church, it was a sacred practice to prophesy over each person who was to be sent out to do the work of the ministry. Today, the norm is to have everyone sit on a church pew and listen. There are many God is calling out of from the pews and into His power for the purpose of building His kingdom.
