We know that obedience is better than sacrifice. To God, obedience is better than anything we can possibly give him. We know there are people who give many dollars to the church but live like the devil and think they are sanctified through their sacrifice of giving. That is not what God is after. He owns it all anyway. People feel that they are sanctified because when they were seven years old, they walked to the front and made a confession of faith. So because of their act of courage through the sacrifice of humbling themselves, they feel they are sanctified.

What is sanctification? How are we to receive our salvation? How are we to be pleasing unto God to the place where when we meet Him at the pearly gates, He will say, “Come you have done well, my just and faithful servant.” Faithful to what? Faithful in your appearance to come to church? Faithful to your giving? Faithful to what?

We are going to see some things that will begin to unfold before us that we will begin to recognize that there is no longer a choice for us in this life. The only choice that you have is to obey or disobey. This is the choice because whatever you choose to do will determine your destiny for eternity. We are not going to make it passive. We are not going to make it all flowery. We have got to get to a place for the saints today that we preach it like it really is. You will feel like you have been beaten up but that you will know the truth, for the truth will set you free from the fiery death. But someone will say,

"You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe-- and tremble! James 2:18-19

Even the demons of hell believe in Jesus Christ. Don’t tell me you are sanctified and your salvation is secure because you believe that Jesus is the son of the living God. We are going to find out what Jesus has to say about these things. James is saying, show me your faith with works. What is faith? Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the word of God. (Roman 10:17) It is not the decision you make that is important. It doesn’t matter what you believe. What matters is what do you say and what you do. That is the act of obedience. Obedience is better than any sacrifice. Obedience is the only true way to enter through the gates of heaven.
