Sanctified Through Obedience

Part 4 - Being Faithful

You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. James 2:24-26

Do you remember the story about Rahab, the harlot? A harlot is one who is a prostitute. The men of God who were spies within the very camp of the enemy came knocking on her door looking for a place to hide because they were about to be discovered. If they were discovered they would have been assassinated. She let them in, knowing that these men were followers of God. Rahab was not a follower yet she had an understanding, a knowing, that God wanted her to protect these men. Her lifestyle was hideous. Her lifestyle was ungodly. But God gave her one opportunity to show her faith by her works. And what did she do? She hid the men on the top of her roof. When the soldiers came looking for the two Israeli spies, she lied. She lied and told them the men were not there. Hadn’t seen them. Must have gone that way. And God says this woman’s faith saved her through her works. She lied! This can turn you upside down when you think about it. You mean, God sanctified this woman because she did what she was supposed to? Her name is in the bible three times, just like Abraham. She is referred to three different times in the New Testament as being a woman of faith! “Faith comes by hearing. And hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17) She knew that she knew in her knower by God’s unction, by God’s word, by God’s Spirit. She knew what she was supposed to do and she did that very thing, putting her life on the line. She knew that if she hovered these fugitives, she would be as dead as they if they were caught. But it came to a place where it didn’t matter. What have I got to lose anyway? Look at me. I am a reject of society anyway. What difference does it make? This is the only chance I have of probably ever being something to someone and that someone happened to be God.

You can go your whole life and in just one instance, God can require you to do something. You have a choice at that moment whether to be a believer or not be a believer. That is when the point of judgment is made for you. What will you do? When God speaks to you, will you obey? Or will you disobey? What do you think you will say when you stand before Him if you did not do what He said to do? Now remember, when you gave your life to Christ, you were supposed to give your life. We take that so lightly. It is almost a stench in the nostril of God. We are not giving Him our life! We are tipping Him our spare time. We are giving onto God what we think we ought to give God, not what He ask for. This is the bargain. You give Him this life and He gives you life eternal. You give Him 80 years, 120 years at best and in exchange He gives you eternity, never ending. That mean there is no end to it. It will go on and on with no end. What have you got to lose in that deal? The question is do you really believe? Do you really believe there is a life here after? Do you really believe in God’s promise that there is an eternity? Are we those who live according to His word, because every word that is written was first spoken by someone and he ain’t dead! He is still speaking. He is still making requirements. What are you going to do if God ask you to do something that will cost you dearly? It really puts it on the line. Would any of us be willing to do for our God what the terrorists have done? Of course, we come from a totally different source. We come from the act of love and not the act of hate. They were coming in to do damage onto our country because of hate. Yet we are required to walk into the fury of death in love. Wow! Just doesn’t seem fair, does it? To the flesh and to the carnal mind, it doesn’t seem fair. But this is what God requires. So what will God ask you to do? Maybe He hasn’t asked you because He knows you won’t do it. When I first started teaching on hearing God, nobody was interested. Nobody would show up. Nobody wanted to come. I asked my earthly father, “What is the deal? Nobody wants come to learn to hear the voice of God.” He replied, “It is because they do not want to do what God wants them to do. They are afraid that God’s going to ask them to do something they don’t want to do.” I was shocked. “You mean, they claim to be a follower of Christ, yet they don’t want to follow? What is this? Is this legal? Can you do this and be of Him?”
