There is no one in history that has been given more names or titles than Jesus Christ. If you’ve read through the Bible carefully then you know what I mean. Throughout the pages of Holy Writ over 100 names and titles are given to Jesus. And whether He is called “Bright morning star, Wonderful Counselor, the Root of Jesse, the Alpha and the Omega, or the Lamb of God”, each of these names and titles is rich with meaning. They all say something significant about who Jesus is. However, there is no name more significant than “Immanuel”. This name, which Matthew refers to in his Gospel (Matthew 1:23), was first given to Jesus by the prophet Isaiah 700 years before His birth (Isaiah 7:14). And this very special Christmas name, as Matthew tells us, means “God with us.” Jesus Christ is Immanuel, “God with us,” and I’d like to share why this is so meaningful at Christmas time.

When Paul preached to the pagans of Lystra (in Acts 14) He reminded them that the true God, the Creator, had always been with them, giving them witness of Himself by providing them with rains, fruitful seasons, and giving them food and glad hearts. Thus, God has always been with His creation in the sense that He, who is everywhere, has showered all mankind with blessings — despite their sin.

So great was His love for His fallen creation, for you and for me, that He left His glory to come here. And through His perfect life and death on the cross He broke down the wall of separation that our sin had built and reconciled us to Himself; as it is written “God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them.” (2 Co. 5:19). Through Jesus Christ, Immanuel, our sins are forgiven and we have fellowship with our Creator again.

Immanuel, In this one name, everything humankind needs and the entire plan of God’s salvation is culminated. How blessed we are that Jesus Christ became Immanuel, God with us. Even to this day He is molding and shaping His people through a process I will try to depict through this short analogy; ‘The Potter’s Hands’.

The Potter’s Hands

I have a little story that somewhat explains the process of being shaped and molded by the Potter’s hands. Each of us is nothing more than a clay vessel cleansed of its impurities. God chooses unworthy and broken vessels of clay for His work.

Pausing, the Potter picks up an abandoned and broken vessel of clay. His compassion melts the vessel, resurrecting a new pliable texture. His newfound love for it begins to knead out the lumpy, hard features of its coarse and worldly ways.

Finally the clay sighs in relief as it is gently placed in the center of the Master’s view. He ponders with great thought about what He will make of this re-born vessel. Suddenly, the clay experiences a troubling intrusion. Spinning the wooden wheel, the Master begins to form the clay into His heart’s delight. As the clay feels the strong touch of the Master’s hands, he also experiences the swirling of circumstances that he cannot control. Faster and faster, the Potter’s wheel turns as He squeezes and shapes the clay, extending its faith and stature. Slowing the wheel, life’s problems seem to cease. The Potter sits back and observes His renewed vessel. Noticing a few weaknesses in the vessel, He compresses the clay once again into a shapeless form. Whirling the wheel around even faster than before, causing confusion in the clay.

As the Potter works the clay it rises higher and higher. Each finger of the Potter’s hand carves deep into the clay, creating deep paths of purpose and destiny. At last, the wheel comes to a halt and the Potter walks away. Standing all alone, the clay begins to cry out for the Master. To his surprise the Potter returns with a sharp double-edge sword. “What could He possibly want to do with that,” stuttered the vessel? With one clean stroke of the sword of His word the clay vessel is freed from the wheel of calamity and confusion. Resting in the hands of its Master, the vessel experiences a great peace as he is handled delicately for a season.

Having been placed in a small box, the vessel witnesses the closing of a door that only the Master can open. With great intensity a fire begins to breathe its fury all around the clay vessel. Sweating with fear, the vessel struggles to find faith in the midst of this seemingly cruel process. With every hour seeming like years, the vessel weeps every ounce of moisture from its being. Having no more strength of its own, the vessel begins to harden in the Refiner’s fire. As the vessel sees a new glow from his Master’s flaming eyes, the vessel recounts its purpose for being created. It recalls the promise of the Potter’s return, the vessel begins to reflect.

Yearning for deliverance, the smoking vessel cries out with a burning desire to serve His creator. As the Potter begins to remove the vessel from the furnace, the vessel vows to serve the Master with every part of his being. Still glowing with passion to tell others about the Potter, the vessel pleads to be used for the Master’s glory. Instead, the Potter places the vessel on a cold shelf, knowing that he could scorch another with his heated passion to share his experience. The vessel laments over this chilling experience waiting impatiently to be called into the service of his Master.

With each new day the once fiery zeal of the vessel draws cold. Discovering the vessel is cool to the touch and cannot harm those who handle it, the Master takes him from the shelf. Knowing he is called to serve the Master, the vessel waits patiently for the anointed brush of the Potter. With each unique and personal stroke of the Master’s brush, the vessel is gifted with a colorful destiny unlike any other. The vessel is complete, ready to be filled with the Master’s glory. It is willing to be filled and emptied again and again, delivering hope to those who thirst for the Master’s touch.

“But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and all we are the work of Your hand” (Isaiah 64:8).

Amen, So be it!

I had to write as soon as I read the word released Missing Link for our children. It is a spot on direct confirmation to me personally. A week ago the Holy Spirit spoke so clearly to me to request prophetic words for each of my three children. Timely, Sad, and True. My mother is dying. I have all these spiritual gifts, anointing’s, callings, offices and ministries. But I know my mother is dying, and I can’t stop this. Prophets need prophets. We are not God. It is His kingdom, power and glory, His times and seasons. Power belongs to Him, for Him. We can’t play God in our lives. We have been granted much and are required much of. The will of the Lord being done in us as it is in heaven, our prayer….does not eradicate suffering, loss and sadness. It is very important for prophets to realize that even a decree that is not birthed in the heart of the Father is not His obligation to fulfill and make good. His will be done….whether we like it, understand it or not. It is the highest level of faith to trust Him and endure hardness as a good soldier in Jesus. His will shall be done, because we cannot trump it. Neither can the devil. Neither can anyone or anything. All we are and have and do is from the Creator. I realize we are totally His and as God that cannot be mocked, cannot be defeated, cannot be threatened, cannot change, cannot be manipulated or controlled, we are fortunate to be entrusted to be involved in His purposes and plans.

It seems like you’re always writing about what’s going on in my life that particular week, so I just wanted to share about this one. 🙂 This article is a confirmation for us.

My sister got a word from you for her son earlier this year. You said he’s a prophet and he’d have colorful dreams, which is true for him already. He’s been having a lot of questions about his gifts lately, and my sister has been going back and forth on whether she should share your prophetic word with him or not. What is Prophetic Counseling?

There is a difference between receiving Prophetic Counseling vs. Personal Prophecy.

When giving prophetic guidance and counseling it helps to know more about the person. The difference is when you receive a prophetic word from God He is telling you what He wants to say. When I am ministering in prophetic counseling He is giving me answers to what you need to know and what to do in order to receive the results you are looking for. When emailing or visiting over the phone most of the time God gives me the answers within seconds, if they are warranted questions. My understanding of this scripture below is different than what the Word of Faith movement taught me:

In the past, I spent much of my time traveling to other countries, but ministering in distant places left me drained. I have decided to hang up my traveling shoes and focus upon those families who regularly support this ministry. Receiving Your Personal Prophecy

Though a prophet may receive a monetary blessing when giving a person a word from God, he is not to be mistaken for a hireling. A prophet who is a hireling will give a false prophecy at the request of his financial provider for monetary gain.

In contrast to these false prophets, there are men of God who desire to only speak God’s words and to reveal God’s plans for the people. These men receive their spiritual blessing from God and their financial blessing from God’ people.

Old Testament Times

In the Old Testament we find that the Lord commanded Samuel, a prophet of God, to prophesy over a young man who would be coming his way around lunchtime. The Lord indicated that this young man’s name was Saul and he would be looking for his father’s lost donkeys.

Today’s Spiritual Guidance

As it was in the Old Testament it is today; it is not evil to seek a prophet for spiritual guidance or direction from God.

In this and other scriptures throughout the Bible, God has shown us that we must support his prophets. These men of old had conviction that they must bless the prophet, Samuel, for his intercession. God wants His people to be cheerful in giving.
